Day 69: Building Community

Kenny's (1 of 1)

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Acts 2: 42-47 NIV

Day 69: Building Community

When I go to the store I appreciate finding a great deal.  But even more than that I appreciate going to a vendor who recognizes me.  Perhaps they ask about my children.  The fact that we know about each other’s lives gives me a good feeling.  I believe that they care about me not just my money.

Living in an environment where you feel a genuine concern from the people around you is priceless.  In the early days of the church described in the book of Acts we read about how the people viewed that all their possessions were to help one another.  It wasn’t a utopia.  They did have to work through issues of some parts of the community feeling neglected.  But they worked through it.  In the end they demonstrated God’s kingdom here on earth.

In the picture above you see a local Chinese take out place called Kenny’s.  I remember my son saying that the lady at the register was so nice.  While they have things that we can enjoy eating it’s because of how they made us feel that we go there so often.

Today I will seek to build community in the places God has placed me.

Thank you for joining me on this journey to worship and wellness.  I’ve been suffering with headaches for the last few months and so I took a break but I’m back in the saddle.  If you enjoy the posts please subscribe and share with a friend.  Have a happy, healthy and blessed day!

Confidence in God (Day 32)

Day 32: Confidence in God

Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for[a] he gives to his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:1-2

There is a peace that truly passes all understanding.  When you have complete trust in God’s care you receive a healing peace.  This peace allows you to work reasonable hours and trust that God will supply all of your needs.  I’m not saying that there aren’t times when we have to work harder than the usual schedule.  But I do think it is important to note the negative effective a stress-filled life style has on our minds and bodies.

The writer of Psalm 127 points out that God is the ultimate insurance.  You can have security watching over your home or city but unless God protects it you will still have trouble.

I have lost confidence in many things.  But not in God.  Yehova is consistent.  I will trust Him with my belongings, my family, my career, and my desires.  And this peace will allow my mind and body to grow more healthy.

Today, I will brag on my protector.  He has never failed me.  Great is the Lord!

Go To The Park

park life (1 of 1)-2Day 9: Go To The Park

One of the best places to find healing is in nature.  In a recent online post the University of Minnesota points out that time spent in nature reduces stress, speeds up the time of healing, and promotes a feeling of connectedness.

I have personally found great benefit spending time walking, taking pictures, or just relaxing in the park.  Both of my children enjoy spending time on the slides and swings.  I think park life is totally underrated.

I recently enjoyed spending time at Wheaton Regional Park, here in Maryland, USA.  In this park there are so many things to enjoy.  My mother was married at this park in the botanical gardens area.  There are plenty of trails to walk on, a train, a merry go round and plenty of picnic areas.  If you come you may want to enjoy a snack or get something to drink from Miss Mercado’s Ice Cream Truck.  She has been a regular fixture there for more than 10 years and offers a welcoming smile and a broad selection if treats.

A pastor once said that God’s first book is nature.  With the recent reporting of the damage of spending too much time in front of a screen and with the rising epidemic of obesity it would seem to be a wise choice to set aside time daily to spend outdoors in nature.  Here are some pictures from my photowalk at the park yesterday.

Today, I will spend some time outdoors in God’s first book, nature.

The Corrective Diet

The Corrective Diet
The Corrective Diet

I want to share with you about a way of eating introduced to my family by Peter Carstens called The Corrective Diet. I have included a link to allow you to listen to videos of Peter explaining the principals behind this diet here.  I consider this information to be very valuable and one of the best kept health secrets.  My family participated in a documentary about his diet.  We agreed to follow it for a month.  The results were tremendous.  My son lost 17lbs, my wife lost 19lbs, my mother lost 20lbs, and I lost 32lbs.  But what was most incredible was that neither my son, my wife or I though we all have asthma, had to use our inhalers after about a week of being on this diet.  In addition my blood pressure lowered into the normal range without medication after about 10 days (I don’t recommend stopping taking your blood pressure medicine without your doctor’s supervision).

My wife Monique Griffiths who in addition to being a recording artist is also a personal trainer.  She has used this diet with several of her clients with great results.  Please take the time to watch several of the videos to gain a clearer understanding of the science behind the diet. (videos about corrective diet)

But in summary let me just say that it is a way to eat that focuses on making the body more alkaline.  This is believed to have many benefits.  Click here to read about which foods are acidic and which are alkaline and what percentage of each we should include in our diets (alkaline diet benefits).

If you would like a copy of the corrective diet please leave a comment asking for it at the bottom of this post.

Thank you and success to you on your journey to wellness and your journey to worship.
